What's Going on at the University of Toledo?

It's still an on-going FBI investigation, but there have been players charged in a point-shaving scandal that dates back to 2005. According to the toledo blade, running back Harvery "Scooter" McDougle was charged March 29, 2007 in a U.S. District Court in Detroit for conspiring with others in a points-shaving scheme. It was originally discovered when a gambler in Michigan assured bettors, as the 2005 GMAC was coming to a close, that McDougle had offered bribes to other players so that the point spread would be covered. He was told of his charges the next day, by U.S. Magistrate Virginia Morgan, and was realeased on a $10,000 unsecured bond. The maximum penalty of bribing to affect the outcome of a sporting event is five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. One player was offered $10,000, just to sit out of a game. The man in Michigan was asked, by McDougle, to put a $2,000 bet on the GMAC Bowl. Why is it that the first I ever heard of this, was this past weekend during the Purdue vs. Toledo game? If you know anymore about this, let me know, stuff like this interests me, but I can't put interest in if I don't know about it.

Personal mission statement

My main hope is to discuss interesting issues in the sports world in both an entertaining and informative manner. My role will be to post on issues pertaining to hockey, football, and controversial sports records. My favorite sport is hockey mainly due to the high pace and continuous action. My favorite team is the Detroit Red Wings, which is natural for someone from Michigan. To me a hockey game is never dull, and I will try to mimic this quality in my posts. I’m also a fan of football, more specifically a fan of the Chicago Bears. Once again this is natural for someone that is from Michigan partly because I have family in the Chicago area and partly because the Detroit Lions aren’t a very compelling team to root for. Another topic in the sports world that holds some interest is in sports records. The reason that sports records interest me is because records are what all pro athletes aim for, and yet only one athlete can call himself or herself the best. It truly separates the absolute best to ever play the game from anyone else. Some of these records are controversial, while some are coined ‘unbreakable,’ but either way, it is still a record sought after to be broken. That's another interesting aspect of sports records; someone is always out to break the record. I look forward to becoming and active member of this blog.
